• Soft Launch of the International
Meatless Day Campaign in Malaysia

Penang
The soft launch of the Malaysian Campaign will be held
on Sunday Oct 27, 2002 at the Bayview Beach Resort,
Penang. YAB Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, Chief Minister
of Penang will pledge to become meatless on November
25 2002, International Meatless Day. Several State Leaders
are also expected to be present. Leaders of commercial
organisations, educational institutions, societies &
NGOs will receive pledge forms from YAB Tan Sri Dr.
Koh Tsu Koon. They represent a cross section of the
many organisations taking part in this year's campaign.
YAB Tan Sri Dr. Koh is also expected to receive completed
pledge forms to go meatless on Meatless Day from the
staff of the Bayview Beach Resort.
Owing to the publicity generated by our meatless day
campaigns and the increasing number of members of the
public choosing to go meatless, the Bayview Beach Resort
has decided to set up a "meatless section"
in their weekly Sunday Buffet. This section will have
at any one time more than 25 meatless dishes. YAB Tan
Sri will take this opportunity to launch the Resort's
"meatless section " of their Sunday buffet
at the same time.
• International Meatless Day Carnival
2002:
5.00pm to 10.00pm on Sunday, November 16, at the Esplanade,
Penang
The Penang State Government together with the Malaysian
Meatless Day Campaign Committee, is organising the International
Meatless Day Carnival as an event in the Penang State
Tourism Calendar in conjunction with International Meatless
Day. This year's organising committee is being Co-Chaired
by YB Dato Kee Phaik Cheen, State Executive Councillor
for Tourism, Arts & Women’s Affairs
The launching of this year’s Carnival on November
16 at the Esplanade will be officiated by the Chief
Minister YAB Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon at 6pm.
Tickets valued at RM10/- per book will be sold for
the event. To add value to the tickets 6 discount vouchers
will be provided without any extra charge for every
book purchased. These vouchers will entitle the holder
to discounts in vegetarian restaurants, retail outlets
and hotels.
This year's carnival will also raise funds for charities.

This day will commemorated by performing acts of service
to animals. The poor and the needy will also not be
forgotten.
